Ludolf of Saxony

Ludolf of Saxony
(c. 1300–78)
   Devotional Writer.
Little is known of the life of Ludolf. He was a Carthusian monk in Strasbourg, Germany; he became Prior of the Charterhouse of Coblenz in 1343 and he retired to Mainz in 1348. His Vita Christi, which was a meditation on the life of Jesus Christ, was highly popular. It has been frequently translated and has gone through many editions. It includes prayers, moral maxims and commentaries by the Church Fathers; among many others, ignatius loyola knew it and was influenced by it.
